Yes. EU/EEA visitors use their home registration and EASA certificate; non-EU visitors register at Dronespace.
Austria applies the EASA framework through Austro Control's Dronespace portal, with a 120 m limit, mandatory insurance, and a Vienna city-centre no-fly zone.

- Registration
- Register the operator for drones over 250g or any with a camera (approx €31.20, valid 3 years; min age 16). Mandatory liability insurance for all drones.
- Remote ID
- Mandatory since 1 Jan 2024 for class-marked drones and all Specific ops.
- Maximum altitude
- 120 m.
- Line of sight
- VLOS in the Open category; beyond needs an Austro Control Specific authorisation.
- No-fly and distance rules
- Nearly all of Vienna sits inside the airport control zone, effectively no-fly over the city centre. Donau-Auen National Park bans drones; national parks/reserves restricted. A3 150 m from people and built-up areas.
- Commercial and paid work
- No separate commercial licence: registration + competency + insurance; beyond Open limits is a Specific authorisation.
- Notable restrictions
- Vienna city centre; alpine national parks.
- Penalties
- Administrative fines (an example tourist fine of €3,600 for central-Vienna flying is reported); higher for serious breaches.
