Drone Laws in Norway
Yes. EU/EEA visitors use their home registration; non-EEA visitors can register in Norway (flydrone.no). Note: Russian citizens are banned from operating drones in Norway.
Norway applies the EASA framework through the CAA (Luftfartstilsynet), with a 120 m limit, a 5 km airport rule, and an Oslo city-centre restricted area.

- Registration
- For drones over 250g or any with a camera (about NOK 230/year for private individuals; min age 16). Liability insurance required (except sub-250g).
- Remote ID
- Required for class-marked drones from 1 Jan 2024.
- Maximum altitude
- 120 m.
- Line of sight
- VLOS in the Open category; beyond needs a Specific authorisation.
- No-fly and distance rules
- No flights within 5 km of airports without ATC permission; keep clear of crowds. Oslo city centre is a permanent restricted area; military sites, prisons and embassies off-limits. National parks often restrict flying, especially in wildlife breeding seasons. Svalbard has extra rules.
- Commercial and paid work
- No recreational/commercial split for registration; beyond Open limits is a Specific authorisation.
- Notable restrictions
- Oslo; national parks; Svalbard.
- Penalties
- Fines or up to 3 months' imprisonment; up to 6 years if endangering manned aircraft; confiscation possible.
