What you can earn in Sydney
Sydney keeps coastal and harbourside real estate pilots in near-constant work, with the Eastern Suburbs, Northern Beaches, and waterfront homes all selling on the strength of aerial footage. Tourism content and CBD construction briefs round out the calendar. The catch is that Sydney Kingsford Smith controls a lot of the sky, and landmarks like the Opera House sit inside permanent restrictions, so the pilots who operate under a ReOC and know the live airspace pick up the work others have to walk away from.

Jobs you would take on in Sydney
Coastal Real Estate Photography
Eastern Suburbs, Northern Beaches, and harbourside homes routinely use drone footage to sell. Waterfront views, proximity to beaches, and cliff-top aspects all show dramatically better from the air.
Tourism and Destination Content
Tourism operators, hotels, and experience providers commission aerial content for marketing. Common targets include harbour views, Bondi and Coogee coastline, and Blue Mountains day-trip content.
Construction and Development Updates
Metro projects, Barangaroo, and the emerging Western Sydney Aerotropolis all generate steady drone work for developers, builders, and government agencies.
Qualifications you need for Sydney drone work
CASA regulates everything you fly in Australia. You can work commercially either in the Excluded Category with a sub-2kg drone under standard operating conditions, or by holding a Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) and operating under a ReOC-holding organisation. Most Sydney pros run under a ReOC because it unlocks closer-to-people flights and the harbour briefs that pay best. Sydney Kingsford Smith's controlled airspace reaches over much of the inner city, so check CASA's Can I Fly There before you commit to a date, and carry appropriate insurance.

Frequently asked questions
How much can I earn as a drone pilot in Sydney?
A coastal real estate shoot typically pays AUD 400 to 800 for a half day, event coverage AUD 900 to 2,500, and inspection or survey work is quoted per project. Pilots operating under a ReOC for closer-to-people flights generally charge a premium. You set your price on the bid and keep 90% after Terasor takes its flat 10%.
Do I need an RePL to take jobs in Sydney?
Not always. You can fly commercially in the Excluded Category with a sub-2kg drone under standard conditions, which suits a lot of straightforward real estate work. But to fly closer to people or in more configurations -- which much of inner Sydney requires -- you need an RePL operating under a ReOC. The higher-value harbour and event charters generally go to ReOC pilots.
What types of drone jobs are most common in Sydney?
Coastal and harbourside real estate, tourism and destination content, construction and development updates around Barangaroo and the metro projects, architectural and commercial photography, and coastal inspections for councils and engineers. Real estate is the steady base for most pilots, with tourism and construction layered on top.
How does bidding work on Terasor?
For Quote-Based charters you submit an AUD price and a date you can fly, and the client selects a bid. For Fixed-Price charters the fee is already set and you upload footage to claim it. Payment is held in Stripe escrow until the client approves your deliverables, then released minus the flat 10% fee.
Can I film the Sydney Opera House or Harbour Bridge with a drone?
Not from inside the restricted zones without a formal agreement -- the Opera House, the Harbour Bridge, and most national parks are permanent no-fly areas. The aerial shots you see are usually filmed from further out over the water with stabilised gimbals. Knowing exactly where the restrictions end, and where you can legally position for those framings, is what lets you say yes to harbour charters with confidence.
