New drone restriction along the US-Mexico border (19 Oct 2026 to 19 Oct 2027)

Terasor

If you fly anywhere near the US-Mexico border, check before you go. From the evening of 19 October 2026 (US time), drones may not fly within one nautical mile of the border, from the ground up to 400 feet, without prior approval through US Customs and Border Protection. It runs until 19 October 2027 and covers recreational and Part 107 flights alike.

The FAA published it as three NOTAMs: ZLA 6/9954, ZAB 6/9978 and ZHU 6/9956. Our article sets out where it applies, how to check, and how to ask for permission.
